Malus x sylvestris “John Downey”

Malus x sylvestris "John Downey" in Coloured pencil.

Malus x sylvestris “John Downey” Crab apple was a tall almost columnar crab apple tree in our garden. The blossom was quite large and sparkling white, producing large, tasty, almost plum shaped fruit with a pale yellow flesh.

The tree blossomed about the same time as the other crabapple trees, maybe a few days later, and as with all the crab apples, the fruit is edible and makes lovely jelly.
