Malus x robusta “Red Sentinel”

Malus x robusta "Red Sentinel" in coloured pencil.

Malus x robusta “Red Sentinel” Crab apple developed into a medium sized crab apple tree with large bunches of fruit.
It is a shapely crab tree often used as a pollinator in orchards, with pinkish blossom and red crab apples in the late summer/autumn.

In our garden on the south coast of the UK we found that the tree produced quite heavily, which was very useful. The blackbirds seemed to make a beeline for that tree when the fruit was fully ripe, so it was important to make sure we left enough, after making jelly, to share with them.
