Magnolia x soulangeana: Fruit dissection

Magnolia x soulangeana: Fruit dissection. Watercolour and graphite on hot pressed paper.

It was this plant in which I became interested in dissecting and examining plants at a deeper level. I became so intrigued by the little thread on which the ripe fruitlet dangled, that I had to examine how it developed, where it came from and where it went to. Thus you see not only the Aggregate fruit in detail, but also the result of me pulling to pieces the fruitlet. From these drawings you now know as much as I do about this complicated and very old plant.
