This picture was painted in colour pencil used dry on Bristol board. I normally prefer hot pressed paper but I thought I would try a different surface this time. The plate surface of this type of Bristol board makes it a little less easy to build up layers of pigment, but luckily it worked out well.
Many people have commented that I must be patient – I am not! But I do love a challenge and become engrossed in it. This was such a subject. Painting all the tiny flowers is not a real problem, particularly when you know about the ‘Fibonacci spiral’. Once you recognise this pattern, it is easier to follow what you have and haven’t done whilst painting the picture.
