Oaks are strong and sturdy and seem to last forever. The wood is very hard and seems able to cope with a lot of harsh treatment, retaining its beauty to the bitter end.
I painted this originally for a friend whose family were going through a particularly tough time. It seemed appropriate.
The image was again used as a logo when the Association of British Artists (ABBA) was started in 2016 to prepare for England’s participation in the Worldwide exhibition of Botanical art in 2018. It was used right up until we changed into a membership organisation in 2019. A new acorn from this picture certainly grew into a huge tree!
