I was asked to paint this particular Iris for a Florilegium of Cedric Morris Irises.
I saw ‘Farewell’ for the first time in a Suffolk garden containing the collection of Benton Irises. Seeing all of the irises in bloom on a sunny June day was amazing. Once I saw the plant I had been given to paint I loved it immediately with the sun shining through the tender white petals – that weren’t white but a multitude of glistening colours.
There were many other exotic-looking species, but this was absolutely the one for me.
