I understand that this picture captivates. The only way to draw it was by studying the very dry Hydrangea flower head , carefully. You may not notice it straight away, but you can follow the Fibonacci spirals and work out how to draw it from that.
I note the most obvious spirals and on my sketch, draw tramlines one way and then the other. From this I can identify each group of four bracts.
This was a very large flower head so I needed something else to help me know where I was in the drawing. I used the smallest ‘stickies’ to indicate which set of tram lines on the flower head that I was following. This is a useful technique when working with complicated Fibonacci spirals.
I kept the flower head until I was packing up to move to Norway!
