Malus x zumi “Golden Hornet”

x zumi"Golden Hornet" crab apple in coloured pencil.

Malus x zumi “Golden Hornet” Crab apple developed into a medium to tall tree. It blossomed round about the same time as the other six crab apple trees in about May time. It generated quite a lot of foliage but also a lot of fruit.

The fruit is fairly yellow when cut across and is of course edible. But if one intends to make jelly from it, one has to be conscious of its ripeness as the fruit seemed to turn brown quite quickly.

This picture was also chosen for the 19th Annual International Exhibition in New York, USA, 2016
